ACCIDENT SHOCK: The driver was believed to have lost control at high speed.

A THREE vehicle pile-up has left one person seriously injured on Torrox Costa.

The driver of one of the cars remains in a serious condition in hospital suffering from multiple injuries while two others are said to have been mildly injured.

The crash took place in the heart of Torrox Costa at a roundabout connecting the inland road to the coastal highway outside an Aldi supermarket.

One man, the most seriously injured, was said to have lost control of his Renault Clio as he made his way along the road, hitting two cars travelling in the opposite direction.

The man, who is a well-known resident of Torrox, is said to have come to a stop overturned on the pavement after hitting the other two cars at around 8pm. The driver, aged around 30, was said to have been travelling downhill at high speed before losing control of his car.

An ambulance transferred the man to the Axarquia Regional Hospital while members of the Local Police, Guardia Civil and Trafico teams blocked off traffic and cleared the scene.  Two lanes of traffic were closed off leading to heavy delays.

Accidents at this roundabout are said to be common as drivers often break the 40-kilometre an hour speed limit in place there.
