Major emergency declared as fuel tanker driver dies in smash

A FUEL tanker driver has died after his vehicle was in collision with a lorry carrying scrap metal – forcing the closure of a main road in Andalucia in the south of Spain this morning (Saturday).
A Level 1 Emergency Plan was activated after the tanker, carrying diesel oil, was involved in a smash on the A-49 at km 80.9 in Huelva.
The collision, just after 9.10am, left the driver of the tanker trapped in his cab and fuel leaking from the vehicle.
Firefighters reportedly had to cut the driver free but he did not survive.
The road remains closed, with a diversion via the H-31, as the remaining fuel is transferred to another tanker and the emergency services clear the vehicles from the road.
