MORE THAN 6,000 people have taken part in a Mallorca-wide campaign to raise awareness against gender violence on the island, according to authorities. The Consell de Mallorca’s ‘No and point!’ campaign included the setting up of 15 information points across nine urban areas on the island. Some 5,100 attended these throughout the summer, around 2,000 more than last year according to Consell equality spokesperson Nina Parron. Jesus Jurado, the head of citizen participation at the Consell, said he was satisfied with how the campaign had gone. “I am very happy because this campaign has taken root on the island,” he said. He added men had also had an important role to play in the campaign, with around 1,500 taking part this year. Training sessions were attended by 514 people while 293 people took part in Wen-do classes, a martial art designed to help women defend themselves. The campaign also saw local artists and musicians collaborate to help raise awareness of tackling gender violence.
