THE forecast storms that tore through the Spanish holiday island of Mallorca have left at least five people dead and several more missing and injured after more than 240-litres of rain fell in just six hours this afternoon (Tuesday). The torrential rains hit particularly hard in the north-east of the Balearic Island as streets turned into rivers.

Spain’s state Met Office, AEMET, had issued yellow and orange severe weather warning for heavy rain and thunder across the islands – but the ferocity of the storms shocked the locals. From mid-afternoon it rained intensely in the Manacor, Sant Llorenç des Cardassar, Artà and Capdepera areas leaving many roads and areas still cut off. The death toll has already reached five and it is feared it could rise further. Emergency services have reported that the last time similar devasting storms hit the island was in 1989. https://twitter.com/Topigon78/status/1049713916752916480
