LATEST: Mallorca death toll rises to NINE as more devastating flood footage emerges

FLASH FLOODS, the result of torrential rains on the island of Mallorca have now officially killed at least nine people.
The heavy downpours burst the banks of a river in Sant Llorenc and the resulting deluge washed vehicles away and engulfed the town in murky water.
Hundreds of emergency workers have been dispatched, aided with sniffer dogs and helicopters, the search continues on Wednesday afternoon for at least nine people missing on the island.
The banks of the river burst on Tuesday night, cutting off Sant Llorenç des Cardassar, and its 8,000 population, from the rest of Mallorca.
This morning, news broke that two of those killed by the floods were that the British nationals who had been travelling in a taxi in the area which was swept away by the flash flood.
The taxi driver remains missing, according to local official Catalina Cladera.
One of the other victims of the floods has been announced, Rafael Gili, 71, former mayor of Sant Llorenc.
Spanish media report that 200 people have been evacuated from their homes due to flooding and many residents were forced to stay the night in the local sports centre.
Tennis star Rafael Nadal, from Mallorca, offered the facilities of his sports centre in nearby Manacor for “all those who need accommodation”.
