A FIRE broke out and destroyed the contents of a Local Police garage during the early hours of yesterday (Monday) morning. The incident occurred at the police station in Palma de Mallorca in the Son Gotleu neighbourhood. Firefighters report the blaze started at around 4am on Monday morning, adding that the flames spread rapidly. Firefighters had reason to suspect arson being the cause of the fire, claiming the fire spread quickly considering the numerous police vehicles stored in the garage were spaced between four and five metres apart. After firefighters battled the blaze it was revealed by Local Police that in total, 25 motorcycles and six cars were torched beyond repair in the fire. The total amount in damages due to the fire is estimated to be valued at more €400,000. Angelica Pastor, the Councillor of Public Safety has released in a statement: “The person or persons responsible for what happened has little fear of entering a police station and has done much harm to citizens. Now the most urgent is to solve the operational problem that has been created.”
