A COURT in Spain has sentenced British drug trafficker Brian Charrington to 15 years in prison for smuggling offences.
Charrington was convicted by the court in Alicante for trafficking 192 kilograms of cocaine from South America into Spain from 2012 to 2013.
Charrington, from Teesside, appeared on Europe’s most wanted list of criminals prior to his arrest in 2013.
Police raided one of Charrington’s homes as he ran his global operation from the Costa Blanca, allegedly harbouring other fugitives in his properties.
Charrington gained notoriety in Spain and became known as the ‘Wikipedia Narco’ due to the fact he allegedly updated his own Wikipedia page to boast about the amount of drugs he had successfully smuggled into Spain.
Charrington was found guilty in court of crimes against public health and money laundering.
He has been ordered to pay around €31.2 million in fines and his son Ray Charrington has also been convicted for crimes of money laundering.
