BENIDORM’S famous Tiki Beach Bar, popular with thousands of British holidaymakers on Spain’s Costa Blanca, has hit the headlines in the UK national press with many of the tabloids claiming that the iconic bar has permanently closed.
However, a reliable Euro Weekly News source said that a photograph showing it locked up on Monday was only because of the bad weather and not because it has closed for good.
The tabloid headlines had screamed: “‘END OF AN ERA’ Benidorm’s famous Tiki Beach bar closed forever after superfans fail to stop government-ordered shutdown over noise complaints”
Tracy Ann Essex, admin of the Benidorm Seriously Facebook group, with more than 91,000 members, said: “Yes, it’s definitely still open.”
The other photo that went on to add to the confusion was one taken at night when Tiki Beach would not have been open anyway” which Benidorm Seriously were quick to point out.
According to sources staff have suggested that it may close in around 17 days to reopen in a new location sometime in February, but this has not been confirmed.
In September this year the Euro Weekly News broke the story about how the popular Benidorm bar forced to shut by Spain’s Supreme Court after noise and nuisance complaints.
The Tiki Beach on the seafront at Levante beach has been the subject of noise and behaviour complaints by neighbours for years.
And the Spanish court ruled in favour of the neighbours and ordered the closure of the establishment in a decision that can’t be appealed.
Loud music and the behaviour of the clients, mostly foreign tourists, were cited by the community of owners of the Santa Margarita building in their call for action against the bar.
In April 2016, the Provincial Court also ordered the closure but the owners of the bar appealed to the Supreme Court.
