FORMER US President George HW Bush died last night at the age of 94 at his home in Houston, Texas. Bush Sr was America’s 41st president holding office between 1989 and 1993, and is credited with helping to end the Cold War. He was also instrumental in building the international military coalition that forced Iraq’s Saddam Hussein out of Kuwait. The cause of death has not yet been revealed but Bush had a form of Parkinson’s disease and had been hospitalised several times for pneumonia and other infections in recent years. World leaders past and present have been paying tribute to him and Theresa May said Bush’s “ethos of public service was the guiding thread of his life and an example to us all.” Bush Sr’s death comes eight months after his wife of 73 years, Barbara, passed away in April.
