A DANGEROUS gang who allegedly posed as police to steal drugs from other criminals has been brought down. Officers from the Guardia Civil have arrested 21 people in San Roque and Algeciras under operation ‘Burga-Justel,’ charging members with organised crime, illegal weapons possession, impersonating as police officers, breaking and entering and attempted robbery using force. Police say they also seized identity vests and items of clothing bearing the logo, ‘Guardia Civil EDOA,’ as well as five vehicles and several real and imitation guns. The gang allegedly imported hashish boats from north Morocco in semi-rigid boats, as well as ‘raiding’ other drugs operations, posing as members of police. Following an intense investigation, officers found the gang had stormed a drugs farm in San Roque, wearing imitation police clothing, carrying guns, and shouting, “Guardia Civil.” Members of the real Guardia Civil caught sight of the raid from a police helicopter and pursued the suspects, eventually leading to 18 arrests. Police say the gang had also carried out other crimes ‘to order,’ including kidnapping and extortion.
