BETWEEN 60 and 80 per cent of violence against LGBT people in Spain goes unreported, according to one report. A study by the State Federation of Lesbians, Gays, Trans and Bisexuals (FELGTB) and the Observatory of Networks against Hate found called for organisations to become more rigorous in collecting figures of this type of hate crime. The report explained there are many people who: “Neither report nor denounce the violence they suffer, in many cases they suffer in silence and solitude.” The organisations claim public bodies should do more to find out more about the background of the victim when a crime is reported, as well as asking why they were afraid to report it, in order to make progress.
