DISTURBING and unsettling images have been captured in Spain by the Equalia organisation in a lamb slaughterhouse in Castilla y León. A hidden camera recorded behind the scenes footage of the plant, Equalia have condemned the way the lambs were treated in the footage, handled with immense violence and contempt by the staff of the slaughterhouse. In the footage (Which EWN has decided not to feature due to its incredibly violent nature), workers throw and kick the lambs in order to move them in and around their pens. The staff are seen in footage using their feet to forcedly prevent the anxious lambs from return to their pens. The most humane slaughterhouse procedure before killing animals is widely regarded to be through stunning the animals beforehand in order to make the animals less aware. However, the video footage shows staff at the slaughterhouse killing lambs while they are fully conscious. The lambs can be seen flailing desperately, visibly terrified and fully awake in the moments before they are slaughtered. It is unconfirmed whether the lambs of the Castilla y León slaughterhouse featured in the footage are regularly slaughtered in this manner or if the footage shows a one off occurrence.
