A SUPERMARKET worker has been seriously injured after being attacked by a broken bottle. The attack happened outside the supermarket on Calle Orihuela in Torrevieja after a man had allegedly been caught shoplifting by one of the shop workers. According to reports, the man – described as North African – entered the supermarket not long after it opened and was caught stealing items, although some witnesses say he went straight to the cashier to demand money and attacked two employees – striking one of them and leaving him with a perforated lung – after he was challenged by them. The Local Police in Torrevieja and the Guardia Civil were called and a suspect was arrested in connection shortly afterwards. It is understood that he did not resist arrest and was taken into custody. The injured man was stabilised at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Torrevieja Hospital in what was described as a ‘serious’ condition.
