DIE-HARD Wolves fan, Steve Horton, travelled to Newcastle this weekend to see his beloved football team take on the Magpies in the Premier League.
However, Mr. Horton decided to travel via the Costa Blanca on his way to the game due to the fact it worked out cheaper than simply heading to Newcastle on the train.
The Wolves fan took to social media to document his budget journey to St James’ Park in Newcastle.
Mr. Horton elected to fly with Ryanair as flights for a trip to Alicante-Elche Airport and then returning to Newcastle proved to be cheaper than rail tickets from his hometown of Wolverhampton to the Tyneside city.
As seen on Mr. Horton’s Twitter account, @BillyTapit, a message read: “En route to Newcastle via Benidorm courtesy of Ryanair. Cheaper than the train.”
The distance from Wolverhampton to Newcastle is just over 200 miles.
Mr. Horton’s route was around 3,000 miles and worked out as a cheaper alternative.
A return train ticket from Wolverhampton to Newcastle would have cost around £114 according to train booking sites.
However, a flight from Birmingham to Alicante with Ryanair is estimated to have cost £30, with £15 return flights from the Costa Blanca to the UK.
