NO CONFIDENCE: Conservative MPs trigger vote on British PM Theresa May’s leadership

A NO confidence vote is set to be held on the British Prime Minister’s leadership of Conservatives after party officials said enough MPs had requested the ballot.
Conservative MPs are set to vote on Theresa May’s leadership of the party after its 1922 backbench members’ committee said it received the 48 letters required to trigger it. The vote is due to go ahead between 7pm and 9pm Spanish time.
May said a change in leadership would put the country and Brexit at risk.
“I will contest this vote with everything I have got,” the Prime Minister said.
It comes as May announced she would delay last Tuesday’s vote on her Brexit deal amidst concerns that it would not get through Parliament.
If May wins then she cannot be challenged for another year. If she loses the Conservatives will hold a leadership contest and she will not be able to stand.
Senior Conservative MPs said they expected a new leader to be in place in around late January or early February if she loses.
