THERE were almost 21,000 divorces and 1,000 separations in Spain between July and September , down 2.4 per cent on the same period of last year. The highest number of matrimonial dissolution demands per 10,000 inhabitants were made in the Valencian community with 5.7, followed by Andalucia and the Canary Islands with 5.1, Balearic Islands (5) and Galicia (4.9). All of these regions have exceeded the national average of 4.7. La Rioja and Aragon, Castilla y Leon and the Basque Country all fell below 4 dissolutions per 10,000 inhabitants, with 3.8, 3.7, 3.4 respectively.
