‘EL GORDO’: Spain’s Christmas lottery results are being televised nationwide

THE Spanish lottery, ‘El Gordo, or ‘The Fat One’, is now being live-streamed across Spanish television channels.
People all across Spain wait patiently to find out this year’s ‘El Gordo’ results.
‘The Fat One’ will dish out €2.4 billion in prize-money this year.
Although other lotteries offer bigger individual prizes, Spain’s ‘El Gordo’ has been ranked as the world’s most popular lottery in terms of total prize-money.
Students from Madrid’s well-known school ‘San Ildefonso’ will be calling out prizes on national television during the day (December 22).
The live lottery announcement started at 9:20am and will continue during the rest of the morning.
Spain’s Autonomous Communities are waiting to find out this year’s results.
So far, Madrid has been the luckiest province in terms of first prize Christmas lottery wins.
‘El Gordo’ has been won 91 times in the city, ahead of Barcelona with 57.
In Madrid, the prizes are more concentrated in the capital itself, with 78 first prizes, the last one being scooped last year.
The total wins have been distributed over 13 districts, while in the Catalan province they were spread over 14 areas.
Since 2007, there have been only two years, 2011 and 2015, when the first prize was not won in Madrid capital.
