IN the wake of a spate of destructive forest fires in and around Costa Blanca north, Javea Council has reinforced its resources and invested in a dozen portable water cannons. Some €21,895 has been spent on 12 portable ‘Sideinfo’ portable guns that can be used to extinguish blazes in ‘out-of-the-way’ places, with the water being taken from nearby swimming pools. This equipment can be quickly put into operation, and Councillor Pepa Gisbert has announced that a training session will shortly be held so that members of the Civil Protection Volunteers can learn how to operate the water cannons. This isn’t the only investment in the safety and security being carried out in Javea. The council has recently received a subsidy of €128,000 towards the purchase of a vehicle that helps in clean-up operations after forest fires to prevent further incidents.
