MAKING Almeria city’s tourist attractions accessible to visitors with disabilities is the aim of the Inclusive Tourism Table, made up of local authority and social organisation representatives. Meeting for the first time at the end of December, the representatives agreed to analyse the strengths and weaknesses of the city’s tourist resources in terms of accessibility, on the basis of which proposals for changes and projects can be made. City Promotion Councillor Carolina Lafita said the city has already made advances, among them having a fully accessible tourist office, but stressed that to advance further it was important to be working alongside the social collectives working in the functional diversity field. Lafita underlined the potential benefits to trade, commenting, “Inclusive tourism is also an economic opportunity, as 130 million people in Europe demand accessible tourism, hence it is of great interest to offer inclusive tourism products.”
