A HIGH speed water chase ended in the arrest of three suspected hashish smugglers in the Costa del Sol. The Guardia Civil used a helicopter to hover overhead and a speed boat to intercept the suspects who attempted to escape during the dramatic pursuit. The detainees, a Spaniard and two Moroccans, were arrested on Malaga’s Sabinillas beach after their high-powered vessel was rammed by police putting an end to a chase which covered several kilometres. A video of the events shows the suspects attempting to flee on foot, despite the helicopter landing on the beach first. They reportedly became ‘extremely violent’ and began throwing stones at the police.
Guardia Civil sources claim a shipment of hashish was recovered on board the vessel, and a vehicle loaded with gasoline, thought to be waiting to refuel the boat, was seized nearby.
