GENDER VIOLENCE: Total of 47 women killed in Spain in 2018

A TOTAL of 47 Spanish women died in proven or alleged gender violence cases in 2018, according to figures from the country’s Equality Ministry.
Data from the Ministry showed the total number of women killed was down from 51 in 2017 and 49 in 2016.
It comes as a woman was killed in Barcelona in what is believed to have been a gender violence-related incident on December 15. The woman was the latest gender violence victim in Spain.
Equality Ministry figures showed a total of 39 children were orphaned as a result of gender violence this year.
A quarter of all killings took place in Andalucia, the region with the highest amount of gender violence cases this year.
