A BRITISH holidaymaker was killed when the car her family was travelling in was involved in a head-on smash with another vehicle, hours after touching down at a Costa Blanca airport.

Five other people were injured in the crash, including the woman’s partner and daughter, as they were driving along the N332 at Santa Pola on Sunday – less than 15 km from Alicante Airport.

The partner of the deceased, thought to have been in her 60s, was reportedly critically injured and was in a coma when he was rushed to hospital.

National Police officers, a fleet of ambulance and a helicopter attended the scene, and fire fighters used acetylene equipment to cut four of the casualties from the wreckage.

The fatally wounded woman, thought to be from Bedfordshire, died at the scene, while the five injured were taken to the General Hospital of Elche and Vinalopo Hospital.

An investigation is underway.
