A GROUP of friends in Velez-Malaga have won more than a million Euros in Spain’s Christmas lottery.
The lifelong friends won a total of €1,250,00 after a family member from Almansa, east Spain, who came to stay with them over the festive period chose the winning numbers.
The group won the second prize in the contest, using the number 21015, “because it was the number my husband’s grandfather always played on this date,” according to Sandra Diaz, owner of the hotel Dila in Velez-Malaga.
Ms Diaz explained her husband Damian’s aunt chose the numbers, adding her husband had been the one to tell each of their friends the good news.
Another of the winners was Antonio Martinez, owner of bar La Casa de Martinez on Plaza de Capuchinos, while Antonio Piña, the owner of a painting company, was also in luck.  He explained on the day of the win he had got up to go to work at 6.30am but did not hear the news until midday.  He told one publication: “It was a surprise and the truth is that it is very welcome, although I still do not know what I’m going to spend it on.”
