HUNDREDS of Marbella locals have helped to raise some €14,000 with a weekend of sports put on in aid of a young local woman who lost her limbs to septicaemia.
The Sports and Solidarity weekend, which took place from Friday December 14 to Sunday December 16, saw more than 2,000 people take part. It was organised by local sports clubs with the help of Marbella City Council.
It was organised in aid of 18-year-old Sarah Almagro Vallejo to raise money for prosthesis operations following amputations after she contracted septicaemia in July last year.
Sarah, herself a keen sportswoman, said on Facebook: “I want to thank everyon e for organising and participating in the event. What a wave you have made.”
Javier Merida, Marbella City Council’s sports spokesperson, said the event had been a success in helping to raise money for Sarah.
The weekend featured wristband sales, a swimming relay, rhythmic gymnastics and a cycling workshop which saw hundreds of athletes take part.
A multisports tournament featuring tennis, skating, football and other sports took place at the Paco Cantos Sports Centre on Sunday, with 500 people taking part. A relay and martial arts session also took place that day.
