SEXUAL ASSAULT: Two men arrested for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl on New Year’s Eve in Spain

THE Guardia Civil has arrested two men on Tuesday for allegedly raping a young girl that was returning home after a New Year’s Eve celebration in Burriana, Castellón.

The individuals had allegedly covered the 17-year-old’s head, put her in a vehicle and took her to a private property before raping her and then freeing her the following day.

After the incident occurred, the young girl was taken to the hospital after asking for help in order to get back home.

She was taken to the nearest hospital, University Hospital of La Plana, located at a neighbouring village in Villareal.

The hospital, following protocol, proceeded to inform the Guardia Civil that a minor had been attended to after suffering sexual abuse.

Members of the Judicial Police of Burriana went to the hospital to question the victim.

Burriana Police then initiated an investigation where they were able to identify, locate and detain the alleged rapists that same day (January 1).

The two men are currently under arrest for sexual aggression and will be put in front of the court of Villareal.

The local government has stated in an open letter that cases like these “cannot and should not go unpunished, nor can they be tolerated in a democratic, egalitarian and free society like ours”.
