SOCIAL media users have tweeted that a Podemos deputy in the Madrid assembly should be shot in what is believed to be a far right outburst.
Hugo Martinez Abarca has allegedly received abusive messages from two different profiles, one of which is believed to belong to a network of ‘fake’ users who support Vox.
One of the tweets before Christmas read ‘you are scum for Spain, you are better shot’ and ‘if not shot then beaten’.
A second tweet on Thursday, which said ‘Hugo, have a good shot in the neck’, was removed by the author who apologised and said they regretted writing the post.
The deputy has reported the threats to the National Police and before a court in Madrid.
On his own Twitter account, Abarca wrote: “I have no problem in debating even sourly, in receiving harsh criticism even when it is considered unfair. But we must not tolerate the threats and climate that they are promoting with their network of fake users, which can permeate their fanatical environment.”
