A NIJAR man is under arrest on suspicion of mugging an 84-year-old and a person with reduced mobility. Guardia Civil began investigations after the elderly victim reported the crime. They said they had been walking down the street when a vehicle pulled up beside them and an individual got out and approached them. They told the 84-year old they had bad news about a family member – specifically that they’d had to have a leg amputated due to gangrene – as a pretext for giving them a hug and getting their hands on the wallet the victim was carrying in a trouser pocket. Four days later the victim with reduced mobility had just taken money out of a bank when they were approached by someone in the street who, again, had pulled up in a car and given them the same story about someone in their family. The attacker then pushed them and made off with €500 in cash, a mobile phone and their bank card.
