A FOUR-year-old boy from Coria del Rio, Seville, died on Saturday after being shot during a boar hunt that was being carried out on a farm in Guillena.
The 112 Andalucia Emergency Services, said that the indecent occurred just before 11.30am after a witness stating that the little boy had been injured from a gunshot during a hunt that was taking place.
The incident took place in ‘La Lapa’, Guillena, in the foothills of the northern Sierra de Seville.
As stated by the delegate of the Presidency and Security of the Astigitano City Council, Jose Antonio Rodríguez, the child was with his grandfather, ‘in his car seat’ when he was shot.
The Public Health Emergencies Company (EPES), the Guardia Civil and the Local Police were alerted of the incident and a helicopter was sent to the scene to transfer the child to the Burguillos Health Centre.
Medical staff attempted to revive the child, who received a single shot, but were unsuccessful.
The child´s body was transferred to the Forensic Anatomical Institute of Seville where an autopsy will be performed.
A hunter of Italian-Argentine origin has been arrested and was set to appear in court today (Monday) to face a crime of ‘reckless homicide’.
An investigation into the circumstances is also underway.
