SPAIN attracted the third largest amount of tourists out of any country in the world last year, according to new figures from the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO).
Around 82.6 million holidaymakers came to Spain. The country came behind France, second, and the US, first in the ranking of visitors.
UNWTO head Zurab Pololikashivili said the figures showed that Spain remained a leading destination for tourists.
Around 1.4 billion people across the world travelled to another country for a holiday in 2018, 6 per cent more than the previous year.
Tourism is a powerful driver of economic growth but issues such as Brexit and rising geopolitical and economic tensions were creating a “wait and see” attitude among investors, Pololikashivili said.
