A WORKMAN died after light cables above a baggage conveyor he was repairing at Son Sant Joan Airport fell on top of him on Thursday 24 afternoon. The 53 year-old, suffered a fatal head injury, and reportedly died instantly. It’s still unknown what caused the structure to collapse at 4.33pm. Colleagues of the deceased immediately called emergency services and paramedics tried to resuscitate the workman, but his injuries ‘were very serious’ and they could only certify his death. The man was from Valencia, but lived in Mallorca. Hours earlier, at around 1pm, a scaffolder was seriously injured when he fell two metres from a scaffold in Son Bugadelles, in Calvia. He was treated by ambulance personnel at the scene and transferred to the Rotger Clinic in Palma. The Guardia Civil has launched an investigation into the cause of both work accidents.
