Vaccine mistrust increases number of outbreaks claim health experts in Spain

Marbella residents are being encouraged to get involved with their local politics

EXPERTS at a recent health conference confirmed while Spain leads the world on vaccinations, it could still do more.

Speaking at the 2019 MSD Virtual Congress of Vaccines, MSD’s global vice president of marketing, Patrick Bergstedt, said: “Vaccines face a challenge: mistrust, not only in Spain but throughout Europe.”

He added: “It is incredible that in 2019 this is at risk, but we have seen many outbreaks of diseases throughout Europe, of measles, that are motivated by anti-vaccination movements. It’s a serious matter.”

The expert warned misinformation around vaccines had increased the risk of outbreaks of diseases previously thought to be under control.
