OFFICIALS in France have confirmed that at least eight people have died and 25 have been injured in a blaze at a tower block in a wealthy neighbourhood in Paris.

The fire broke out in the early hours of this morning in an eight-storey building in an area filled with upmarket shops and restaurants and popular with tourists.

Officials say that early investigations suggest a ‘criminal’ cause for the blaze and a woman resident of the building next to the that caught fire has been arrested.

It is claimed that she had been seen trying to set fire to a car and then a rubbish container.
