OFFICERS of the National Police force have located an eight-year-old boy in Barcelona after being taken from his mother in the Netherlands.
The little boy, who was abducted on June 12 of last year from the town of Kruisstratt, was allegedly taken by his father and a friend.
After taking the boy from his mother, who had the custody rights, he was forced into a van that quickly drove off.
According to a statement given by the police today (Wednesday), the father has a record of violent crimes.
The Netherland authorities contacted the Spanish National police due to suspicions that the offenders and the boy could be hiding out in Cataluña.
The Spanish police were able to locate the boy in Barcelona where Special Operative Security Groups were called to carry out the rescue mission.
One of the offenders was arrested at the scene but the father of the child is yet to be located.
A shelter centre is taking care of the boy until he is returned to his mother.
