SOME of Marbella’s and San Pedro de Alcantara’s best-known landmarks were lit up green on Monday to mark World Cancer Day.
The Arch of Marbella, the Cristo del Amor Bridge and the San Pedro’s statue of the Marquis of Duero were all cast in green light for the day. Green is the colour of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC).
Marbella’s Mayor Angeles Muñoz said cancer was a disease that could be cured and prevented if everyone fought it together.
“The disease, which is very common among the population, becomes more visible on this day. Diagnosis is often a blow but people with cancer need to know they are not alone,” Muñoz said.
The AECC set up seven information stands around Marbella as part of the day. An estimated 236,000 people have cancer in Spain.
