One dead and almost 100 injured in Barcelona train crash

EMERGENCY services have confirmed one person, a train driver, has died in a smash that left almost 100 people injured in a crash involving two trains near Barcelona this evening (Friday).

Casualties include three people seriously injured, 16 less serious and 76 described as ‘mild’.

Approximately 100 people escaped the smash unharmed.

All casualties have been transferred to hospitals.

Anxious relatives are advised to call the 900 10 10 20 information number.

The accident happened on the R4 Rodalies line between St Vicenc Castellet and Manresa and involved a Regional 15624 service and Cercanias 28043 train

The Spanish train operator RENFE has expressed its condolences to the victims of the accident in a social media post.

An investigation has been opened to determine how the trains came to collide.
