TENNIS ace Rafael Nadal showed off swing skills of a different kind on Sunday, qualifying in second place in the Balearic Islands Golf Championship for golfers over 30.
Tournament organisers, the Balearic Golf Federation, confirmed that Nadal, who is representing Son Servera golf club, finished as leader of the course on Saturday with 70 strokes (-1 over par).
But at Vall D’Or on Sunday, he completed the course with 10 more hits (80), and handed the lead and the tournament to PGA referee Federico Paez (74-73).
Golf enthusiast Nadal has a handicap of 1.5, enough to make him professional.
He has taken part in different championships and last year was fifth in the Amateur Championship of the Balearic Islands.
Each year, Nadal takes part in a solidary charity tournament in Son Servera with golfer Jose Maria Olazabal.
The pair lead teams of professionals and amateurs with the aim of raising funds for various social causes. The last contest was in aid of victims of October’s floods in Llevant, Mallorca, which claimed the lives of 13 people.
