CATALAN separatists took to the streets of Barcelona en masse on Saturday to protest over the trial of 12 independence leaders.
At least 200,000 people, according to the authorities, and as many as half a million, organisers claimed, marched under the banner “self-determination is not a crime”, demanding, “freedom for political prisoners.”
The trial, which got underway last week, relates to the October 2017 referendum on independence from Spain, which the Spanish Government declared illegal.
Catalan Government President Quim Torra headed the march, describing the trial as a “farce”.
