LOCAL POLICE in Rincon de la Victoria have arrested three alleged graffiti artists, thought to be behind large numbers of vandalism.

Police reportedly caught the trio as they painted the Parque Vitalis urbanisation in the centre of Torre de Benagalbon.

Officers said they also seized 39 spray cans, nozzles, rollers, gloves, and masks, when they came across the group at around 6.15pm after receiving a call from the public.

The three allegedly hid their faces with masks as they vandalised a housing complex on Calle San Fernando before police pulled up in a vehicle.

Two of those arrested, one aged 22 and another aged 20, reportedly hold criminal records for graffiti, while the third, aged 25, does not.

Police said all three lived in Malaga city. The group are said to practice a COMBO technique of graffiti in which two artists paint at the same time.

Francisco Salado, mayor of Rincon de la Victoria, praised, ‘the important research work being carried out by the Local Police to end the graffiti and vandalism that takes place in our historical and cultural areas.’

He said: ‘Our agents have opened a line of inquiry that is at a very advanced stage to determine the authorship of the graffiti that took place on the walls of the Casa Fuerte Bezmiliana.’  He also called on members of the public to continue reporting any incidents of vandalism.

Rincon de la Victoria town hall has recently installed 24-hour CCTV cameras at several of the area’s most important sites following high numbers of graffiti. Mayor Salado said: ‘It is planned to place this same security system in other locations in the municipality where graffiti is common as in La Cueva del Tesoro.”
