Summer concerts for Woody Allen

WOODY ALLEN visits Spain for three concerts in his role as a jazz clarinetist, not film director, next June.

Accompanied by the Eddy Davis New Orleans Jazz band, he plays in Bilbao on June 16, in Barcelona on June 18 and Madrid on June 20.

According to advance publicity, Allen’s concerts will follow their usual improvised formula without a playlist although he and the band will play 20th century classics associated with Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechert, Johnny Dodds and George Lewis.

Allen, who was last in Spain in 2014 when he played at Barcelona’s Liceu theatre, has played with the New Orleans Jazz Band for the last 36 years.

This latest visit coincides with Allen’s fall from grace owing to after the MeToo movement resuscitated old accusations from his ex-wife Mia Farrow who insisted during their divorce proceedings that he had abused Dylan Farrow, one of their adopted daughters.

The courts dismissed the claims in 1993 and Allen has maintained in interviews that he supports MeToo and considers that he should be the movement’s “poster boy.”
