Eat well for less

MANY people believe that eating well, eating clean and eating to lose weight comes at a price. It’s cheaper to buy processed foods and ready meals for convenience. Not true!

Eating well and maintaining or losing weight can be affordable if you do it right. It is not essential to spend a fortune on organic quinoa and exotic meat, fruit and vegetables from specialist retailers.

Certainly in Spain we have access to a wealth of incredible fruit and vegetables, which are even cheaper if we use the fruterias rather than the larger more expensive supermarket chains. Use the butchers for meat. Try to buy in bulk and freeze in portions.

A good healthy diet is a simple one. Processed foods should never be in the equation. Use natural sweeteners such as honey and dates. Switch baking with wheat flour for almond or coconut flour. Use healthy fats like extra virgin olive oil and coconut oil for cooking. One jar of coconut oil lasts forever!

The beauty of carb cycling is that the way you eat focuses on the most simple of everyday staples. Focus on cooking in batches. Make meals which can last for three days. Be creative with herbs and spices.

A fantastic documentary called ‘The Magic Pill is’ widely available to see on YouTube. It discusses the way we eat in the most simplest of forms and helps to understand the food groups. Watch it.
