BRAZILIAN police have stopped 1.7 tons of cocaine heading to Spain by ship.
The large quantity of narcotics was allegedly found aboard a vessel at South America’s largest port, Santos.
Police claimed the drugs were found by two sniffer dogs in a container carrying fresh lemons packed in paper boxes and headed towards Cartagena. The group behind the alleged smuggling attempt are said to have intended to move their cargo to another vessel once in the port of Algeciras.
Brazilian officials claimed it is the largest amount of drugs seized in a single container at Santos and explained they believe the drugs were placed on board the ship without the knowledge of the lemon sellers.
