BAILED: Cremation coffin switch suspect released after stumping up €200,000

THE daughter of a man accused of running a coffin scam in northwest Spain has been released on bail.

The woman, whose father owned the funeral home where the alleged con took place, was released for prison after putting up €200,000 in bail.

A court investigating claims against the El Salvador de Valladolid funeral home had lowered the woman’s bail requirement from €400,000 following an appeal by her lawyer.

The company is accused of charging grieving families for expensive coffins before swapping them for cheaper ones before cremation.

The owner of Grupo El Salvador, and one of his children, is still in jail, following a police investigation into the case, which is alleged to have affected up to 6,000 families.
