A MALAGA CITY court has jailed a Guardia Civil officer for four years after convicting him of killing three and injuring nine others while drink and drug driving near Torremolinos.
Malaga City’s Tenth Criminal Court also ordered the defendant to pay more than €1 million in damages over the crash on the A-7 motorway in 2017. He has also been handed a five-year driving ban.
The court heard the officer was driving at around 149 kilometres per hour in a 100-kilometre zone while drunk and after taking cocaine when he crashed into a taxi.
The collision killed a man and a woman from Bahrain and a woman from Kuwait.
Police tests for drug and alcohol consumption later showed the defendant was under the influence.
The sentence comes after the same officer was convicted of drink driving over an accident which took place near Mijas in 2014.
