CESAR SANCHEZ will head the Partido Popular’s list of candidates for Alicante province in the April 28 general election.
Currently Calpe mayor as well as president of the provincial council, the Diputacion, Sanchez’s position as number one on the PP’s list assures him of a seat in the next national parliament regardless of the April 28 outcome.
The PP party headquarters at Calle Genova in Madrid recently confirmed their choice of Sanchez although the nomination was hardly a surprise, especially after his announcement earlier this year that he did not intend to run as mayor in the May 26 regional elections.
Sanchez takes the place of Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo, Foreign minister between 2011 and 2016, who represented Alicante in the national parliament on the strength of his links to Javea where he owns a house.
Sanchez’s counterpart Pedro Duque, who tops the list of PSOE’s Alicante candidates, is currently Minister of Science.
Duque has an even stronger Javea connection, as his diplomat wife Consuelo Femenia Guardiola, with whom he has three children, is Javea-born.
