Costa tram talks to reopen with “we will start from scratch” warning

TRAM ON TRACK: Talks to reopen in Velez-Malaga

THE Junta de Andalucia has announced it will reopen talks about Velez-Malaga’s tram service but warned, “we will start from scratch.”

The body said it was open to meeting with the town’s council but confirmed there was no commitment in writing for the Junta to offer funding for the project.

Earlier this month, Velez-Malaga Council reportedly failed to find any companies willing to undertake the project to restart the town’s tram service. After an initial tender failed to attract any companies, the council began a series of talks with specialist firms in February, however it has been reported there have still been no offers to take on the project.

The town’s mayor, Antonio Moreno Ferrer, said the issue did not mean the works would not go ahead. The Tram campaign is one of the main projects of the current council coalition.  The project would include work to kilometres of tracks, new video surveillance systems, roads signs and signals.
