WEEKEND WINDS: Spain’s Met Office upgrades weather warnings for south coast and Canary Islands TODAY

SPAIN’S national weather agency AEMET has upgraded its weather alerts for the weekend with yellow and orange warnings for wind or ‘coastal phenomena’ today (Saturday).

Strong winds, gusting up to 80 km/h, are forecast along with high coastal waters in the provinces of Malaga, Almeria, Cadiz and Granada in the south of the mainland while the Canary Islands of El Hierro, Gran Canaria, La Gomera and Tenerife are expected to be hit by high waves.

112 Andalucia has issued a warning telling the public: “Exercise extreme caution at sea and on the coast.”

Alerts are expected to remain in place until 7pm.
