A 51-year-old son of a man who has laundered €80 million of cocaine profits was detained recently in Calpe.
The arrest came after police searched a Calpe villa and an Alfaz del Pi estate agent’s, impounding four high-end vehicles and putting a block on properties worth more than €5 million.
The family lived in a luxurious Calpe mansion, but the father was arrested in Holland where two years previously police intercepted 3.2 tons of cocaine camouflaged in a containerload of bananas.
Subsequent investigations revealed that the drugs network laundered their profits through a series of real estate investments carried out through an Alfaz-based company, which bought building land for luxury developments in different Marina Alta areas.
Already built properties were also acquired and rented out, investigators found.
The son has now been extradited to the Netherlands, police sources revealed.
