READERS of the El Pais newspaper have ranked Mojacar as one of the 10 prettiest villages in Andalucia.

Mojacar came in at number six in Andalucia and 27th nationally in the online vote on a choice of 250 localities of less than 10,000 inhabitants across the country.

“There are two different Mojacars”, it says in the newspaper’s El Viajero travel supplement.

“The village, craggy, white and Arab, a tiered and irregular labyrinth, high in the foothills of the Sierra Cabrera, fronting the Mediterranean coast, where the other Mojacar of sand, sea and beach bars has fun.”

El Pais recommends taking a quiet stroll through the village streets and enjoying a refreshing beer up at the castle viewing point as the sun goes down.
