PASSENGERS on an easyJet to flight to Spain received an unusual welcome when their plane touched down on the tarmac.

The plane was taxiing to its gate at the busy Palma de Mallorca airport when ground staff alerted the flight crew to the presence of a flamingo on the ground.

The bird was filmed strolling just feet in front of the aircraft and, seemingly, oblivious to the huge, winged object trailing behind it.

Now the video that was shared on a Spanish air traffic controllers’ twitter feed has gone viral with almost 250,000 views in less than 24 hours.

According to Mallorca Bird Watching & Culture the Greater Flamingo visits Mallorca in the winter months, usually arriving in late summer and departing by April.

The wildlife incident comes just days after a hippopotamus was spotted strolling across a roundabout in southern Spain after escaping from a circus in Almeria.
