NATIONAL POLICE have arrested a 31-year-old suspect in connection with a Costa del Sol car chase which left nine officers wounded, several cars damaged and saw shots fired yesterday (Thursday).
Police sources said the incident began when a Local Police patrol in Benalmadena called for backup from National Police officers over a chase involving a red Renault Megane.
The driver made for Fuengirola. The fleeing car rammed into police vehicles and one officer fired a warning shot in the air to try and stop it.
The car then reached the centre of Fuengirola where the driver allegedly tried to get into the town’s Guardia Civil barracks.
The car later crashed into a lamppost on a roundabout of the town’s Avenida de Mijas. Police then made their arrest.
A total of nine officers were injured, four from the Torremolinos and Benalmadena station and five from Fuengirola. Seven police vehicles were left damaged. The case continues.
